Salt City Market Announces Official Open Date

After more than a year of anticipation, Salt City Market will finally open its doors to the public. Located at 484 S Salina Street—at the intersections of Salina, Onondaga, and Harrison streets—the Market will open for takeout, curbside and delivery service beginning on Friday, January 29.

Salt City Market was spearheaded by the Allyn Family Foundation, through the creation of the Syracuse Urban Partnership, a not-for-profit organization, as a part of their initiative to improve economic development and opportunity in Central New York. The building was originally set to be completed in November, but construction delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic slowed the project down. Now, with a few more months of practice under their belts, the Market’s vendors are ready to serve Syracuse their incredible foods from around the world.

“When we announced that we would have to push the opening back to January, our vendors immediately sprang into action by doing more takeout events out of the With Love kitchen,” says Adam Sudmann, Market Manager. “They were perfecting recipes, getting their name out there. Now? They’re champing at the bit for the opening.”

Sleyrow Mason, owner of SOULutions, agrees. “We spent all year on zoom and sending emails and training, but I’m a chef—I was born to cook. I’m the happiest when people are enjoying my food.”

The Salt City Market will feature 10 food stalls: Baghdad Restaurant, Big in Burma, Cake Bar, Erma’s Island, Firecracker Thai Kitchen, Farm Girl Juicery, Mamma Hai, Miss Prissy’s, Pie’s the Limit, and SOULutions. The market also has two anchor tenants that will be opening second locations; Salt City Bar and Syracuse Cooperative Market. Salt City Bar is the sister location to Salt City Coffee, located just up the street from the market on Onondaga St. The Syracuse Cooperative Market, currently located in the Westcott neighborhood, will open the doors to its downtown location in early spring of this year.

The Market is open for takeout, curbside, and delivery service Monday-Saturday from 11AM-9PM, as well as Sunday from 11AM-5PM.
